Fern in the garden
Gerald gardens around Fern's nest
Update on Fern

You never know how close you may be to species at risk- they may even nest in your garden! Gerald and Evelyna MacQuarrie live in Pleasant River. One night in June they were surprised to discover Fern  Blanding’s Turtle digging a nest in their garden. They called researchers in the area and were amazed to watch Fern lay her eggs that night. After the nest was concealed, they covered it to protect the eggs from predators. Gerald “didn’t mind at all” gardening around the nest and he enjoys keeping eye out for Fern during the nesting season.Fern has nested on three neighbouring properties in the last three years and Gerald and Evelyna hope that she will return this June.
